Monday Muses ~“are you looking at the problem ... or are you looking for a solution?

Last week was different in different ways for me.

Firstly, I had an appointment with my oncologist, he gave me the news that I had been working towards and hoping for. After 18 months I can now say that I am cancer free; there has been a bit of a reaction to the last examination, however to hear the word “CLEAR” overrides the discomfort.

Next I also had the first of what will be many many conversations with international colleagues in regards to a very exciting step for Craig’s Table The plans and the discussions are exciting, the challenge is one that the late David DePaolo, The Marksman and I had discussed many times. As is his way The Marksman is both exceedingly proud and [quietly] excited. For me it is also a massive learning curve, it is also another step forward for the entire injured worker community.

Then sadly we all woke to the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth 2nd. ?As with countless others Queen Elizabeth is till now the only Monarch I have ever known.

This news article did rankle me over the last weeks. To the point where silence was not possible. There was simply no way I could remain silent. Thus I wrote yet another letter to the New South Wales Parliamentary Committee with the concerns that the injured worker community have raised. I opened the letter with this question :

I outlined some of the concerns that the injured worker community bring to me on an almost daily basis. Even this coming week I am meeting with yet another group from the injured worker community who just want to be heard.

The biggest push for me to write to the New South Wales Workers Compensation Parliamentary Committee came from reading this Transcript.

Hence my question:

The concerns that are being treated with almost open disdain and arrogance pre-date the current workers compensation system, worse than that though the injured worker community are being discussed as though they are scant more than a computer file.

My letter outlined my reasoning in regards to the creation of a minister for Injured Workers.

I do understand that the New South Wales Workers Compensation Parliamentary Committee is not likely to take any advice from me. The Committee is tasked with keeping an eye on the workers compensation system not the injured worker community.

There isn’t anyone within the New South Wales Parliament or any other Australian Parliament that actually speak to the societal issues found within the injured worker community. On this I am guided by the late Mother Teresa ?“Never walk past a wrong without doing all you can to right it”?followed closely by Lieutenant General David Morrison “The Standard you walk past is the Standard you accept”. It really is time to stop the “rinse and repeat” processes that have been in place for far too long.

What happens now is up to the Committee Members. On my part my role remains to speak where others feel they have no voice.

Now I need to read through a set of questions that a member of the injured worker community has sent through.?The questions rarely change.

The Spanish dancer comes in many forms, knocking us down when we least expect it. To get the all clear is wonderful news, giving you greater strength to maintain the voice for the injured workers.
