Call us by our name

Thank you Rhea this chat is a mixture of fun and serious and acknowledgments of frustrations shared by far too many within the workers compensation process.

The chat was far far longer than this podcast, and no doubt we will do it all again when the need is back in place.

Among the few things I was able to do last week was attending a webinar that once more left yet another of frustration because the same issues were being discussed, the same levels of concerns, the same issues, the same everything that has been in place and discussed, presented at seminars and conferences for the last 20+ years. The whole issue of "what can we do better" caused me to once more go back to the start and look again to find a way to explain just how to stop the question. As I was questioning it occurred to me that all of it needs to be addressed in similar fashion to "undoing" the Goidian Knot. Or in other words accept that what is in place has long since reached its used by date and ask a different question. "How is this being done better"?

I know I have put this clip up many times before, however I am hopeful that you will indulge me just one more time.

The description of just one person returning to self, returning to life and then moving back into their own future needs to be understood through the correct question and correct framework. Craig's Table didn't ask what, we didn't even ask how, we provided a safe space, we provided a place where family was not just welcome but required, we provided care and laughter and options. *Chris returned to himself simply because the questions we did ask were not based in workers compensation at all, we asked "what do you need and where are you going, and what help do you need to get there?" we added "we will not ask you to trust us, we will earn your trust". The outcomes that *Chris achieved started simply be welcoming him in and allowing him to be the person he knew he was, complete with his own name the added bonus was his wondrous voice in full song. *Chris is just one example of what happens when a different set of questions are used. It terrifies me to think about just how much time and money was wasted for no outcome, in truth *Chris was with Craig's Table just a short few weeks, the change at first was subtle, and then dramatic and then there was no stopping him from reaching forward into his own future. Craig's Table did to the knots that had "bound" *Chris just what Alexander the Great had done to the Goidian Knot.

An update on the progress that has been made thus far. The more the concerns that have been raised the more it is being understood just how concerning the issues of domestic violence and or financial control within the injured worker community needs to be openly discussed along with all the other dark and dank issues such as family break down and suicide. We simply can not afford the privilege of pretending that there are no societal ills that are compounded by the various regulations as set in place by the 11 different workers compensation jurisdictions here in Australia. As with everything this process requires policies to be written and then the policies need to be adopted at the Federal level so the required agreements can then be adopted Nationally. At the same time many other support processes such as financial counselling put in place to avoid many of the flash points. (it still amazes us to know that so many *professional strangers do not understand that members of the injured worker community are not able to access community support processes simply because they lack a CentreLink HealthCare Card) I am the first time admit I have no idea as to how much any of this is going to cost, so with that in mind we are discussing starting a crowd funding page. All of it is solvable and achievable.

Also remember to let us know that you are interested in presenting your work via Injured Worker Well-Being Week. It is looking like we will have our first international presenter this year, which is very exciting.

Ambassador Survivor’s R Us ... Supporting the fight against Domestic Abuse.

Great to hear the light, after a little darkness, is beginning to shine brighter again. Domestic abuse sees no boundaries, neither political or religious. Abuse comes in many forms and after trauma, it escalates. Proper support for injured workers would alleviate some of the problems society experiences from domestic abuse.
