This is quite strange, I normal scribble notes for Monday Muses over a week, then on Monday afternoon I pull it all together. However today is Saturday and I am writing Monday Muses to post on Sunday as Monday I will be at Informa Workers Compensation Summit . The plan is to travel to Melbourne tomorrow then just before I go to bed I will post Sunday edition of Monday Muses.
It has been an interesting week of different meetings from different parts of the world. The conversation in regards to the Comp Laude was one that was among the most exciting and most challenging. This year will see the launch of Stories of Hope. It is planned to tell the stories of recipients from the injured worker community as to how they went headfirst into the challenges from their workplace injuries and emerged on the other side as strong purpose filled people. There are many many issues that are vitally important to me; promoting members of the injured worker community, shining the light on their abilities and achievements is paramount. The image at the side is proof positive that when support and belief is put in place for a member of the injured worker community the world becomes a canvas. I am looking forward to being able to show you the full photo but for now everyone has to wait. It was always David DePaolo’s dream to have the Comp Laude become an international event ; the other exciting news from the Comp Laude is there are more Australian’s have made it through to the second selection round of nominees. I am sure you will understand when I say even though I know who the people are it is up to each of them if the accept the nomination and go forward with it.
Last week I started the conversation in regards to the need to create the Standard for Craig’s Table ; it is amazing the number of people who sent me their thoughts to go into the Standard. Craig’s Table belongs to the widest possible slice of community; thus it is important to have many people putting their thoughts forward.
Delays and high demand hamper payments to escape domestic violence This article was in?the Sydney Morning Herald last week in regards to issues regarding domestic violence. I was not expecting my response to be published; however, I am glad that it was published simply because the lack of real support for the members of the injured worker community must be discussed. The reason that this is important is because none of the non-workers compensation societal injured worker community issues that Craig’s Table needs to find answers for is ever discussed as concerns that impact the ability of a member of the injured worker community to heal and return to open employment. If a person is feeling overly stressed by their reduced income and what that means in regards to being able to pay for the weekly shopping or pay for a child to go on a school excursion the extra cortisol in their body is going to impact on the healing process. Because the healing process is impacted the system questions their focus on getting back to pre-injury health, because of the pressure other negative issues come into play and before long things that once never happened or were simply over-looked become strike points, the strike point then moves into societal issues that we neither acknowledge or discuss. As The Marksman says if it is not measured it doesn’t matter; for me prevention of a societal issue or support for a societal issue is far better than pretending that these issues are not part and parcel of the entire workers compensation process.
Right now, it is time to head to the kitchen for Saturday night dinner
I look forward to updating each of you next week on the outcomes from the Informa Summit and what videos are coming in for Injured Worker Well-Being Week.
I have been travelling for what feels all day, I am safely in my hotel room with a cup of tea ready for an early night.
Yours in service
