Monday Muses ~rights and the concerns of red flags.

I think it is time to call in the time police someone has stolen not quite half of 2023????????

I know when I got up this morning the day was planned out, I just don't know where most of it went, and that seems to be the way 2023 has gone.

The challenge is to get as much done every day that is possible. This week will be fun to dance with. 2am meetings, 3am meetings, late afternoon meetings, phone call meetings, catch up chats and so it goes. I am not complaining, it is just odd to be sitting here this afternoon thinking about a project I have been invited to think about the project has a 36 month time span, and right now I am wondering if it is worth taking down the few Christmas ornaments that I spied over the weekend, or should I just leave them be. ??????????????

I asked a group of people how many people did they think sustained a workplace injury in the financial year 2021-2022. It was an interesting set of answers that ranged from 4,000 to 15,000 to the highest being 35,000. There was stunned silence when I told them that the number was 436,5000 people. That is 36,375 compensable injuries per month, or 8,394.23 per week, or 1,195 per day, or 20 compensable work place injuries per hour. Or 1 compensable injury every 3 minutes.

Although this information is now a few years old, it is still relevant. People simply do not know that that they do not know, nor do people look to see what is right in front of them.

One of the people I spoke with this morning was a gentleman who had been referred to me for a quick conversation. With the cost of living going ever upwards

the gentleman was concerned just how he was going to cover the costs involved in regards to the medication he is on and continue to cover the day to day costs of living. I asked him why he was paying for the required medication; his response was "normal" "if I don't pay for it then I don't get it.", Once more his chain of case managers had not set in place a chemist account for him so on his reduced income he was constantly juggling costs and not taking the complete amount of medication as prescribed and being stressed because his injuries and infections were not responding. When all of this was explained this gentleman was more concerned about upsetting yet another case manager rather than being relieved that at least one cost was to be removed from his budget spreadsheet.......

This afternoon I spoke with a colleague about the above gentleman and his fears of creating a red flag. I spoke about other issues that cross my desk such as domestic violence and suicide and homelessness and the lack of real and tangible support systems- not legal or medical support system, but of moral and human support systems.

My colleague was not aware of all that I have been involved with or what has been achieved against industry resistance, you could say it was an interesting conversation that started with The Marksman challenging me to "build the better mousetrap"

However this is not my story to tell as yet.... as the saying goes patience is a virtue. Sadly patience isn't one of my strong points, for now though as it is not my project, I am not able to tell you any more than I already have.

Last week I told you I had still one more letter to write in regards to Man considers selling home as EML deems him 'not disabled enough' Again after a few disrupted starts I managed to get the required letter written, so now it is a matter of wait and see if the person I have written to has any interest in the concerns I outlined.

Best I end here, I have an early dinner and then attempt to get some early sleep, the alarm will ring at 1.30am for a long waited for conversation with a much admired colleague on the other side of the world.

Before I end though I do urge you to do the nominations for the Comp Laude Awards- the link is below- nominations close on Friday 12th May.
