Monday Morning Mugshot: Alkaline Spring Water
Today, I’m drinking alkaline spring water, which has a pH of 8.1. It’s rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, bicarbonate, and other trace minerals.?
You may remember from chemistry class that pH is a scale from 0 to 14 that measures the acidity or alkalinity of a liquid. A value of 7 is considered neutral. Values less than 7 are acidic. Values greater than 7 are alkaline, or basic.?
Too much acid in a person’s diet can cause various health problems.
A few years ago, I discovered alkaline water helps alleviate the symptoms of my GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). And I’m encouraged by one study that showed alkaline water may help deactivate pepsin, which is the main enzyme that causes acid reflux.?
While many health professionals advocate the benefits of alkaline water — from anti-aging properties to weight loss to immune system support — some of their peers are skeptical, because they want to see more research.??
More research will be great. In the meantime, I’ll keep drinking alkaline water, because it works for me.?
What’s in your mug?
