Monday Love to your Rhythms and Rituals

What rhythms rule your life? How do you measure these cycles? How intentionally do you guide them?
Going around in circles is the story of the universe. From the tiniest atom to the most far-flung planet in orbit, it’s variations on a theme: what goes around comes around.
So it’s no wonder that when it comes to our daily lives and the long arc of our existence, much of what we do has a recurring rhythm to it.
You brush your teeth. You cook your meals. You sleep. Your daily routines.
You take a class. You write a newsletter. You go to a dance. Your weekly cycle.
You pay your bills once a month. You celebrate birthdays and holidays once a year.
And you witness the next generation replaying some of your greatest hits with an updated soundtrack some 15 to 20 years later.
Think of it this way: You are revolving around all the fixed events in your life. Birthdays, holidays, bills, you structure your time to accommodate them.
Revolving around YOU are the actions and events that you have prioritized and put your intention into. The things you put into motion.
Large parts of life inevitably happen to you. But YOU get to make the best parts happen.
Results are what you get when you make the effort to put things in motion. Your efforts are rewarded when you stick with them.
Which brings us back to cycles, and the power of habit. Ask anyone who has learned something difficult, completed a complex project, or developed an exceptional physical body.
It doesn’t happen all at once. Binging, cramming, and pulling all-nighters are generally recipes for disaster.

The tried-and-true method for achieving real results is making a habit out of whatever it is, and sticking with it until it’s second nature.
It crossed my mind today that I haven’t needed an adjustment from my?chiropractor in well over a year. Then I smiled – thinking about?our morning movement and stretching habit that we’ve stuck with for at least a couple of years now.
