Application Switchable Privacy Glass viewing window into the University’s Clayton Campus Lecture Theatre.
Project Description A series of six Switchable Privacy Glass panels were framed together to provide a large viewing window into the newly renovated on-campus lecture theatre. The whole window was set at a rakish, architecturally pleasing angle of 15 degrees. Switchglass provided the ability to opaque the window, or to have it clear for passing pedestrians outside the theatre, and to have this option remotely conrtrolled by the Lecturer. The ‘on’/’off’, ‘opaque’ or ‘clear’ capacity of the glass was what first attracted the architects to the product. But they also foresaw that, with the additional ability for it to be used as a rear projection screen displaying images from within the theatre, it also provided for the option of promoting future events and/or lecture notices onto the window for fellow pedestrian students when viewed from the outside.
