MONAD TERRACE –BY PRITZKER PRIZE-WINNING ARCHITECT JEAN NOUVEL

Monad Terrace, the South Beach residential condominium designed by?Ateliers Jean Nouvel, comprises of 59 individually designed units that marry the comfort and convenience of modern, high-tech amenities with an organic, naturalistic aesthetic that exists in harmony with its environment.

The exquisite condominium comes to life in Monad Terrace’s glittering, airy fa?ade, which “draws the feeling of sparkling Biscayne Bay into the heart of the property,” while the use of honeycomb screens creates a sense of privacy and intimacy that’s breathable filled with sunshine and creates extraordinary reflections.?The “vertical garden” comprised of native bougainvillea, Spanish moss, and passiflora vines, creates a green wall of privacy, the attention to detail and architectural features of this building are genius. Nouvel understands the experience of Miami living, noting “The views are west on the lagoon and the horizon, with the big cruise ships and the mysterious vastness of the ocean. These are framed by the architecture and emphasized by the layout of the apartments. Reflections from the water and the vegetation foreground enhance this emotional experience.”

Monad Terrace is another hit by Jean Nouvel, the Pritzker prize-winning French architect whose artistic vision is powered by an imagination run wild and whose finished works are the fully realized and fabulously functioning potential of a crazy idea scribbled on a cocktail napkin. Watching Nouvel in the short documentary?Reflections, one might conclude that Nouvel is an architect possessed by the spirit of a science fiction writer.

Nouvel’s composition accounts for every angle, and his careful selection of materials for easy integration with Monad’s environment culminates in an ever-changing play of light and aquatic reflections that always look different, mesmerizing the senses every minute of the day. One can only be in awe of the brilliance behind this magnificent architecture. This sparkling jewel of a structure will undoubtedly stand out as one of the most magnificent additions to the Miami Beach skyline.

This project is Nouvel’s sole contribution to Miami architecture, further legitimizing our city as a cultural and artistic center, and joins a highly exclusive group of just five other Nouvel?projects?in the United States. His other works include the Aga Khan awarded Arab World Institute in Paris, the Agbar Tower in Barcelona, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi, UAE. Anyone lucky enough to live at Monad Terrace has the distinct honor of being among such an exclusive group, and the pleasure of calling this magical work of art “home.”
