Momentum is building
The seasons are changing and that sense of moving forward gives me hope. I feel the momentum shifting across the business and I trust you do, too! Airline traffic is improving as restrictions ease in many parts of the world. Shop visits are growing and we are seeing signs of recovery in our Services business. Our quarterly financial results announced last month are following in sequence. And in just the last several weeks, the business has earned important contracts with key customers. Put simply, it is an exciting time to be a part of GE Aviation!
Here are just a few of the reasons I’m feeling inspired:
Catalyst First Flight — Our team completed first flight of the Catalyst engine, the first clean-sheet turboprop design to enter the business and general aviation market in 50 years.
NASA Engine Core Award — Our teams will develop new compact engine core with NASA HyTEC award. This expands research partnerships with NASA to reduce CO2 emissions for commercial flight.
FAA CLEEN Award — GE and the FAA will invest nearly $55 million over five years to accelerate development of a series of emission-reducing technologies . This is the 3rd CLEEN award we have received since 2010.
F-15EX Contract — GE’s F110 engine has been selected as the winner of the $1.5B contract for the F-15EX Lots 2+ competition. The U.S. Air Force plans to continue powering the F-15EX with our F110 engines.
Next Engineers Launch — The GE Foundation chose to invest $5M in Cincinnati to kick-off its investment in a new global college readiness program focused on increasing the diversity of young people in the engineering field.
Bamboo Airways Signs GEnx Agreement — Bamboo’s MOU with GE Aviation to purchase GEnx engines for its Boeing 787-9 aircraft order is valued at close to $2B, list price.
Systems on Gulfstream G400 & G800 — GE Aviation is on the recently unveiled Gulfstream G400 and G800 with systems including the data concentration network, advanced power management system and health management system.
Of course, we will continue to face challenges from the effects of the pandemic, but rest assured, our future will be defined by growth. These examples above show our strategy in motion. We will lead the industry recovery, and we will invent in the future of flight. Our investments in our people and our culture will propel us forward. I encourage each you to pause and take stock of the reasons to feel inspired in your part of the business. Our colleagues are doing incredible things, every day. No doubt you’ll find there are many reasons to believe in our future.
Onwards now, together!
