?? Momentum is building: Exciting updates from SBTN

Dear Colleague,

Today we announce a milestone in our mission to advance corporate sustainability action:?the Accountability Accelerator will host target validation services for science-based targets for nature .

This news marks a vital step in safeguarding the integrity of the targets and ensuring an independent and rigorous evaluation process. As SBTN’s assurance provider, Accountability Accelerator will evaluate each company’s submitted targets through an independent expert review process, ensuring the targets are robust and in line with science. The service is expected to launch later this year.

Join the momentum: Corporate expressions of interest now open In another significant development, we have opened?Expressions of Interest ?for companies interested in using the target validation services to set science-based targets for nature. This open call is timely, as our corporate pilot comes to an end next month. We invite companies to step forward and be at the forefront of setting ambitious science-based targets for nature.

Coming soon: Updated corporate guidance? We are also pleased to announce we will soon be releasing updated target-setting methods for freshwater and land. Alongside these, we will also unveil updated methods for the initial assessment and prioritization steps. These updates, the first since our May 2023 release, will be accompanied by supporting guidance, including a new corporate manual that serves as an entry point to SBTN methods. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our pilot companies and supporting partners for their invaluable insights which have been critical in refining our guidance. Stay tuned for more details as we approach this exciting milestone.

Profiled in Newsweek, SBTN works to give companies clear ways to act for nature and climate On Biodiversity Day last week, a Newsweek?article ?flagged the lack of nature action from business despite thousands of companies around the world monitoring, disclosing and reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. Yet “few widespread mechanisms are in place to systematically measure and reduce business impacts on nature.” The article spotlights SBTN’s work to help businesses better understand and act on their impacts on biodiversity and freshwater, land and ocean ecosystems.?
