Momentum Boost
Have you ever woken up and felt like there wasn’t enough hours in the day? Ok, dumb question… That’s the American way!
However, this week seems to hit a bit different. Why? Well because we are smack-dab in the first “REAL” week of the year!
Wait, what?
Yes, we are in February, the time of year where January momentum fades, the mundane becomes boring, and distractions become sexy again!??
Yes, this is the first week of the year, where QUITTERS QUIT and DOER’S DO. It’s separation season, y’all!
K, so with the deck stacked against us this week, how do we push through and GAIN MOMENTUM when everyone else pumping the breaks.?
I’m so glad you asked!!
Before I jump in, I would like to?make it clear that I don’t have THE answers, here. I just have SOME answers.
With that in mind, below are SOME answers that I have discovered over the years, as I've fought against the “FIRST WEEK BLUES”:
1. Find a ROUTINE that works for you, and STICK WITH IT.
My morning routine has saved me from many unproductive days. By leaning into a consistent routine, our brains become trained to understand that our routine is the primer to action. Personally, I follow the “TIME” method from Jay Shetty:
T=Thankful, I=Inspiration, M=Meditation, E=Exercise. I do these 4 things every morning.
2. Get the NON-NEGOTIABLES out of the way, EARLY.
What are the small few items that you have to get done each week. Focus on those first, so at the very least, you can feel accomplished early in the day.
3. GIVE BACK TO OTHERS
Focusing on something outside of ourselves can help us get out of our own way. For me, teaching a class, writing, or calling people I care about, changes my energy and brings some needed positivity and energy to a “doldrummy” morning.
4. RE-ORGANIZE the day
Sometimes I look at my day and realize that simply put too much on my plate and/or I have things spread out in an inefficient way throughout the day (which makes it hard to focus in the gaps). When I notice this, I do my best to move things around, re-schedule, or sort my day to maximize efficiency and impact.
5. FOCUS small
I'm sure you're well aware, but in case you aren't... ELEPHANTS ARE BIG… That’s why we need to eat them one bite at a time!
Often times, when I feel overwhelmed, it’s because I’m focused on ALL the things, rather than the ONE thing I need to do right now. By putting one foot in front of the other and simply focusing on ONE TASK AT A TIME, I’ve discovered that I get to conserve wasted “overwhelm energy”, and re-apply that would-be wasted energy to specific tasks. I’ve found this to be much more effective.
?
Once again, these are just a few ideas that have helped me. So, with that said…
WHAT DO YOU DO to stay focused, even during the toughest weeks of the year? I’d love to hear it.
REPLY AND LET ME KNOW!
Here’s to your journey in our world, my friend. Let’s make this week, a week to remember!
