A momentous year behind and new heights ahead
Climeworks
With our Direct Air Capture technology, we remove CO? from the air to fight global warming.
Dear friends of carbon removal,?
Before we kick-start the new year at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, we want to reflect on the milestones Climeworks has achieved over the past months: from the delivery of third-party verified carbon removal services in January to signing our single largest purchase agreement with a customer, 波士顿谘询公司 , in December. Climeworks’ journey to gigaton scale is accelerating fast and we’re thankful for your empowering support!?
Climeworks’ highlights of 2023?
With the plans shared for large-scale direct air capture and storage plants across the U.S., Kenya, and Canada, Climeworks has come to the forefront of the global expansion of high-quality carbon removal. While we explored new locations across continents, we made steady construction progress at Mammoth, initiated an industry-wide call for the distinction between emissions reductions and removals, and our co-CEOs and co-founders Christoph Gebald ebald and Jan Wurzbacher zbacher were named to the inaugural TIME100 Climate list.?
Take a look at the full overview of what Climeworks achieved in the past 12 months to continue shaping the industry and its global scale-up - plus a glimpse at what we have planned for 2024.?
Redefining carbon removal leadership with a 15-year agreement??
We’re thrilled to share that Climeworks and 波士顿谘询公司 continue their strong partnership with a second purchase agreement covering 80,000 tons of CO?. This is the biggest commitment of any of our corporate customers to date! The unprecedented 15-year duration underlines the crucial role of long-term commitments, which provide planning security and foster financing efforts to accelerate Climeworks’ global scale-up.??
Our Chief Commercial Officer Jan Huckfeldt said: “Together with BCG, we’re redefining what carbon removal stewardship looks like with an agreement going all the way up to 2040. Long-term commitments defined the success of the solar energy transition and will undoubtedly become more frequent in our industry. It sets a precedent for other climate leaders understanding that carbon removal is a necessity and securing their share of supply early in this future trillion-dollar market.”?
Join Climeworks in Davos
The 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos will center around the theme of ‘rebuilding trust’, providing a crucial space to delve into the core principles of trust: transparency, consistency, and accountability. In parallel, Climeworks will host impactful events throughout the week at the Climeworks Net Zero Café to drive forward these essential conversations for carbon removal.??
Grounded in our experience as a global leader in carbon removal, we want to raise awareness about the critical role of this climate solution in reaching net zero, on top of emissions reductions.??
Save the date for June 4-6 2024?
Climeworks’ annual flagship event in Zurich will return in the first week of June 2024. If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that our Direct Air Capture Summit has always been a highly anticipated gathering of the biggest names in the industry. We’re going to stick to our recipe for an engaging and impactful conference in 2024, but under a new name: the Climeworks Carbon Removal Summit.?
Direct air capture is one of the highest-quality approaches for removing CO? from the air and continues to be at the forefront of corporate purchase agreements and government support. But to create a global carbon removal industry, we need much more than direct air capture. The change of name reflects Climeworks’ continued commitment to scale this market together with the carbon removal ecosystem to foster solutions that are durable, additional, and verifiable. We’re excited to share more about our program soon!?
Remove to zero with Climeworks?
Did you spot Climeworks in the Financial Times or New York Times? We launched our “Remove to zero” campaign this November as a call to action to corporations. Only 0.5% of companies with SBTi targets have purchased durable carbon removal, a number that’s still too low to enable the scale-up to the necessary gigaton level by 2050.
Climeworks wants to raise awareness among decision-makers about the need to engage with high-quality carbon removal today, alongside emissions reductions, for the world to get to net zero tomorrow.?
We can get to net zero. And beyond.
So long friends, let's do this!

11 个月Climeworks playing a strategic role in global decarbonisation efforts ... Growing evidence indicates that removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere will be instrumental to reaching net zero emissions globally. The?latest IPCC assessment report?warns that the deployment of carbon dioxide removal technologies is unavoidable if net zero emissions are to be achieved. However, technologies should be used to complement,?not replace, wider action on carbon mitigation.?
