MOMENTOUS
This month’s Momentous is focusing on our ongoing Sustainability journey
As a global business, we know that the decisions we make today will decide the world we live in tomorrow. That’s why sustainability has been a priority for our agency, and why we launched our Make Sustainability Matter global strategy in 2021. Since then, we have formed the first global partnership with isla, the event industry’s sustainability body, to roll out TRACE, a carbon calculator designed specifically for physical and virtual experiences.
Achieving credible recognition for sustainable practices is a core belief of ours, so, in 2021, we were thrilled when we were third-party certified to the standards of ISO 20121 and ISO 14001, globally recognized as best practice for environmental management. We continue to be audited annually to ensure we are being held to account and are transparent on progress, and we have just passed our most recent audit.
David Chamberlain, Chief Experience Design Officer, NA, and Global Sustainability Lead joined the discussion on whether pop-up experiences can be sustainable with Little Black Book. David shared, “We explore alternatives that have a lower environmental footprint and can be recycled, upcycled or composted.”?
Francesca Elliott, Executive Director, Brand Experiences, UK, gave her perspective on how agencies can tackle the demand for more sustainable activations with?Campaign, sharing that?"Nothing beats human connection, and rather than do away with physical experiences, we need to find ways to produce them so they have equal positive impact for both people and the planet.”

Make Sustainability Matter is steeped in the concept of a circular economy and our award-winning work on the Verizon London Hub is an example of how we’ve been putting this into practice. The immersive experience incorporates sustainable thinking from start to finish by innovating existing assets, diverting waste from landfills and turning it into iconic furniture, and donating unwanted assets to charities with Event Cycle. And we were thrilled to be recognized at?Campaign’s?Ad Net Zero Awards in the Best Practice in Sustainable Events category.?Read more in Little Black Book?and check out the work here.
We are shining a spotlight on the vulnerable state of one of Australia's beloved animals, koalas. This initiative, brought to life by renowned indigenous actor Mark Coles Smith, urges viewers to take part in the preservation of koalas by planting more trees. The 30-second CGI TV commercial features a visually striking wild koala moving through a digitally recreated native habitat enhanced by motion-capture technology and real tree scans. This call to action exhorts the public to aid in the fight against koala extinction through tangible environmental steps. Read here.
These are just a few examples of how we are prioritizing sustainability. We transformed event banners into bags and reused modular stands across Verizon events, repurposed builds like the William Grant & Son Hudson Train Whisky experience and donated to a Children's Charity Museum. We are making a positive impact by donating thousands of assets to other charities to reduce e-waste and landfill for our clients. Additionally, we work with brands like Coca-Cola to create reusable experiences, such as their Ice House experience.
And finally, we united our global offices in December, for our Make It Matter Day, which was featured by Adweek, where we explored the interconnectedness of DEIBA, Sustainability and Wellness through workshops and talks.
