This Moment

?????If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue
or walk with kings nor lose the common touch.

                                        Rudyard Kipling

Since i was a teenager, I have always kept three things on me at all times. They became tattered pieces of paper until i could save them on my phone. The three things…a copy of The Desiderata, Mother Theresa’s Do It Anyway and the poem If, by Rudyard Kipling. The latter, If, is advice from father to son, to move through life with composure and integrity.

With January and new beginnings, I’m going to suggest a variation of my own called What If, with apologies to Mr. Kipling of course.

What if you could let past failures fade from memory while forgiving others their slights once and for always?

What if you could cease to be anxious for the future but rather passionately use this moment to steer your fate instead?

What if you opened your eyes to the multitude of beauty in your life instead of focusing on that which is grey and dull?

What if you allowed yourself to be happy even though it seems usual to expect failure and sadness?

What if you sang out loud, danced oblivious to those watching and played like a child?

If you realize that this moment is all that you really own, all that there is, you would live in it fully, dancing while the music plays, excited for where it will take you.
