A Moment with Donna…The Mysterious Tail
Daylight Savings Time…Yahoo! Here in the State of Washington it has been approved that we don’t need to change our clocks ever again. Washingtonians are thrilled with that decision. It is a joy to have the longer daylight hours, though here in the Pacific Northwest during springtime, grey colors our skies more frequently than blue skies and the golden glow of sunshine.
Every day daylight extends itself and everything comes alive in a most special way. What was brown, drab and lifeless, now has a new look…one of green and slowly but surely, various trees are filling up their bleak, empty spaces with vibrant colors…creating a color canopy that fills one’s eyes and spirit with joy. The whole effect is truly magical. It is a time of celebration, a celebration of life we can all participate in.
When I am broadcasting or doing counseling, I am able to look out of my office window to the forested areas that fill adjacent properties. For the past few days, I noticed something unfamiliar.
Within the crook of a massive oak tree branch I noticed a movement, a swishing, flipping movement. The first time I noticed it I felt, rather I assumed, it was one of the sassy squirrels that frequently visit my yard. I noticed this movement again the following day making the same assumption. However, on the third day, I became curious. So, I began to really pay attention to the activity going on in the crook of this large oak tree branch.
This time I saw a tiny paw and my assumptions about the critter being a squirrel was discarded. Was it a cat? A large cat does patrol all of the yards in my neighborhood. No, it wasn’t that neighborhood stalker.
Large evergreen branches interweaving with the big oak’s branches blocked a clear view of the contented critter. I kept looking, this way and that, trying to get a better view, when to my delight the small critter moved enough for me to see it was a baby racoon. No other siblings were about. This adventurous spirit found its own niche which gave it protection from being seen by hawks and eagles. Also, it had a vantage point of being able to view what was going on safely in the entire neighborhood, the world it lives in. That baby racoon made choices that ensured its healthy survival as it is obviously an observer and thinker.
Nature has a way of sharing her wisdoms. I asked myself, what could I learn from my simple observations.

1-Don’t make assumptions. Be curious enough and willing to have the patience to find out facts.
2-If dealing with challenges, find your advantage point, your niche, where you can see the bigger picture being aware there can be disruption, and negative interferences.
3-Be secure and know you are never alone. Find the right environment(s) that can support you and for heaven sakes, take time to relax and groom yourself for success. Life has a way of balancing itself.
Hm,m,m,m …who would have thought a mysterious curled, flipping tail could teach so much.
Celebrate your life, its gifts and its adventures. Have a fabulous April!!
