A Moment of Destiny…

I met someone today… someone that I never thought I’d meet… and if only I was younger… that was my only thought…

We were all alone… standing in the dining room of her new home… the sun was setting just outside the window… creating such a delightful… and perfect… romantic situation… it was something that neither one of us had really expected…

Just a little while before she was to arrive… I had been taking photos of the sun as it was getting lower in the sky… there were clouds on the horizon that made it so beautiful… and stepping down close to the water… I captured such a beautiful shot… but the lower it got in the sky… its beauty just couldn’t be denied…

She was walking in the front door… just as I had stepped back in the house… this was going to be her brand new home… and we were there for the orientation… her personality was very outgoing… smiling as she walked up putting her hand out… and that was all it took… we were on a journey from there…

But before I let her hand go… I said you have the perfect place to watch the sunset… and as she turned to look… her excitement was priceless… she let my hand go… and immediately opened the patio door… stepping out to take some photos… her passion for that warm glow was like mine… and her photography was so amazing…

So before we got started… I showed her some of my photos… that were literally taken just minutes earlier… she smiled with her eyes… and I think we both had a moment… it’s that realization when you meet someone just like yourself… it’s kind of like finding a lost soul…

Normally… the homeowner would have stood directly across from me at the island… but she wanted to continue watching the sunset… positioning herself right beside me… literally… and she would look out the windows… saying “Oh Look…” then turn to me and smile… moving in a little tighter each time…

As we were talking… I noticed her looking down at my hand… almost reaching her fingers out… that’s when she noticed my wedding band… but she didn’t pull away… she stood there the whole time… almost shoulder to shoulder… when I felt her fingers brush mine…

I did my best to keep talking… but the sun had the clouds lit up by now… and she was more focused on the moment… so we briefly stepped back out on the patio… just so she could take a few more shots… I was fascinated at how passionate she was… and I think she could tell… that I too hold that feeling…

As we stepped back inside to continue the walk through… she began talking about her kids… and sharing little tidbits about her life… such as being use to higher end amenities… making it very clear what she liked… and didn’t like about the house… but every time she would point something out… she’d look directly at me… just to see my reaction… and then smile…

I asked what was bringing her to this neighborhood… she stopped… physically turning to look straight at me… saying… “It’s not by my choice…” and “He made his own bed…” … … I wasn’t sure what to say… but she had just went through a divorced… and was looking for a new start… so she began asking about me…

The skies were darkening… the winter night was falling… it was cool and crisp outside so the stars were starting to show… we were upstairs by now… she was standing by a window in the master bedroom… wanting to take another photo… but all of the lights in the house were on… which was causing a glare… so I told her I could fix that… which made her curious…

I closed the doors to the bed and bath… then turned the lights off… she kind of giggled… because she understood… I then walked over and opened the window… saying now you know… she politely said thank you… as she put her hand on my back… it wasn’t totally dark… but our thoughts were running wild… we sat there in the darkness… for several minutes… when she said quietly… “You have to send me some of your pictures…” as she was closing the window…

I turned the lights back on… opening the doors… her smile was priceless… she was loving this location… this would be her new home… so we continued the orientation… but every now and then she would point something out… and as I would look at it… she’d lay her hand on my back… but I’d just step away…

We chatted nonstop… as we walked through the home… about little things… only pausing when I would start explaining something… and she would stand as close as possible… as not to miss a word… I could tell she just wanted attention… and I could only imagine what was going through her mind…

As we were wrapping up… even though it was dark outside… she stood right next to me… almost touching again… and all I could think of… is if were different circumstances… but being the gentleman I am… I couldn’t cross that line… so we never exchanged numbers… you know… for swapping photos…

These are the moments that can’t be made up… real life is simply precious… a photo for the heart… a snapshot for the mind… just something left for the dreams… and our imagination… just simply takes us there…
