The Moment Deserves Our Attention Too
I believe the reason time seems to go by so quickly is because we tend to think in terms of the future. When we do this, we seem to miss out on all of the things right in front of us in the present. And before you know it, the future you were thinking of is now here…and you’re still thinking of what’s up ahead. Of course, it’s not a bad thing to have goals and a plan on how to achieve them. However, I do think it’s important to pay attention to what is happening around you. To be keyed in and reflect on yourself and the present moment. A quote from John C. Maxwell comes to mind. It reads, “Focusing on the destination is not a good idea. Tomorrow may come it may not. The only place we really have any power is in the present.”
Though I recognize the importance of “being present in the present,” it is something I also find difficult to achieve most of the time. I keep thinking meditation is an activity that can help "slow time" in essence and allow myself to be more present. Ironically, I rarely find time to do so because I'm always catching up to where I think I should be. But today, I am changing that. I'm going to make sure I include that in my plan.
