MOI (Movie Object Index) Files

A MOI file is a metadata container format primarily used by DVD authoring software and media players. This format stores critical information about DVD content organization and structure.

When you create or work with DVD content, MOI files serve as an index that helps media players understand how video content is arranged. They contain essential data like chapter points, playback sequences, and menu structures. Think of a MOI file as a detailed table of contents for your DVD content.

The internal structure of a MOI file includes:

  1. Chapter markers and timestamps
  2. Navigation data for DVD menus
  3. Playback sequence information
  4. Video object references
  5. Menu link structures

MOI files work in conjunction with other DVD-related files like VOB (Video Object) files to create a complete DVD playback experience. While end users rarely interact directly with MOI files, they're crucial for proper DVD functionality.
