MOGEC COUNCIL: Working Hard, Laughing Harder

On 3rd December 2024, a few of us from the MOGEC Council—Ir Rashid Sidek, Ts Sharifah Zaida, Ir Ahmad Nazari Ashari, Pn Azlin Roshazliana, En Amran Sofiyan, Ir Azhan Salleh, Pn Bahiyatul Nazarah, En Muhammad Shahrir Zubir, and our Secretariate Pn Khasmah Zainal Abidin—gathered at Parkview Café, KLCC Convention Centre.

But this wasn’t one of our usual EXCO meetings. It was an informal tea session—a rare moment to relax, share stories, and muse over the lighter (and heavier) sides of the engineering industry with friends and, ironically, competitors.

Between laughs, tea, coffee and good food we delved into topics that weigh on all of us:

• The shortage of experienced engineers in Malaysia.
• The global respect Malaysian engineering services have earned—and why we need to push for more international opportunities.
• The challenges of relying too much on Malaysian projects and the pitfalls of the lowest-cost bidding system.
• The importance of engaging Government agencies like MATRADE to support our expansion efforts.

These are serious issues, but we tackled them with the camaraderie that defines MOGEC. Despite our firms competing for the same clients, our shared goal is clear: to see Malaysia’s engineering sector thrive both locally and globally.

We’re proud of the work MOGEC has done, all while volunteering our time. And there’s more to come in 2025—stay tuned for the exciting initiatives we’re planning!
