Modern day parenting, Modern day workplaces, modern day policies and practices: My personal reflections

Challenging and changing oppressive status-quo - views are my own and doesn't represent anyone I am employed by - past, present or future.
Day before Yesterday: The human child and the dogs in bed by 8.15 PM.The husband on a night out with his mates and returned home at 12.30 AM. The haus was blissfully quiet. I worked on my report till 1 PM without interruptions. Report incomplete but in fab shape and it was a bloody bliss!
Yesterday: The dogs starts whining at 6 AM. The child starts kicking at 6.30 AM. The man still snoring at 6.45 AM. I started work on the report at 5.30 AM but resorted to social media browsing to block out all chitter-chatter.
And, yet again, I had a reflective moment.
1. Growing up I was part of a large tribe of uncles and aunts dogs and cousins and pals in the neighbourhood. It was a beautiful life growing up. My #mightygirl is missing out on that. It’s just her fab parents and more fab dogs, and the occasional pal she has.
2. Some of my husband’s mates he went out with, are my mates too. I wanted to go as well but couldn’t as we didn’t have the tribe and community to fall back on, for looking after the kids. He went because he was on child duty non-stop for 7 weeks when I was away on work. He deserved that break more than me. I miss that sense of security within a close knit tribe and community.
3. Single parents, specially in ‘rich’ countries have a real tough life. Specially if they are without the tribe and community. Getting someone trustworthy, and affordable is too bloody challenging.
4. ‘Flexible work’ continues to be a buzzword in most workplaces. It takes a very matured and caring organisation, with equally matured and caring individuals in decision-making positions to have the gumption to trust their staff and allow flexible working. My beautiful husband was able to manage full time work and manage the kids and household while I was overseas because he has a supportive, non-judgemental workplace. He retained his kickass sense of humour, impeccable work ethics and productivity and his absolute inability to clean up the kitchen to my standards.
