Moderation is the key to enjoying the food we love. - Shubhi Singh
“Talk to your food, and you’ll find it much easier to make healthy choices!”
?
Being a chef as well as a food lover and curator, I find the definition of healthy food to be very different from the so-called conventional theories. My take on the matter is simple: as long as we consume in moderate quantities, we can find the richness of health and taste in a wide variety of cuisine, including fatty food, which is considered to be a complete no-no by the puritans. In my opinion, a healthy diet is one that is enjoyable. Even food that fall under the bracket of “guilty pleasures” can prove to be beneficial in their own way. What actually matters is how you prepare them and how frequently you include them in your meals.

How about a “healthy” pasta?
Let’s give you an example here. I enjoy pasta?too! However, the one I eat and advocate is prepared more healthily. It is low in fat and sodium, which promotes satiety and reduces the likelihood of snacking or overeating. However, adding a rich Alfredo sauce can significantly increase the fat and sodium content. A preferable alternative would be to utilize whole-grain pasta with a drizzle of olive oil and a light dusting of Parmesan cheese. Delicious, isn’t it?

Enjoy red meat without the visible fat
For non-vegetarians,?red meat?consumption?is often inevitable – however, it becomes imperative to select the appropriate type with an eye on good health. When stripped of visible fat, lean red meat is an excellent source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, niacin, zinc and iron. Furthermore, when consumed in moderate portions, it has been demonstrated to lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly called “bad” cholesterol.

It’s a whole grain rich in fiber, keeping you full and promoting regularity. Additionally, it offers essential nutrients like vitamin B, manganese and magnesium, along with powerful antioxidants that can help protect against disease and cell damage. The trick to healthily enjoying popcorn is simply going easy on the salt and butter.

Maintain a healthy relationship with chocolate
This blog is incomplete without mentioning?chocolate?because, let’s face it, the whole world adores it! While it’s often not consumed most healthily, chocolate is packed with benefits. Its flavonoids are potent compounds that can protect against cell damage, lower blood pressure, enhance blood flow to the brain and heart, and significantly reduce the risk of heart disease. Dark chocolate is the superior choice, boasting of the highest cocoa content—where the flavonoids thrive—and the least sugar. Remember, moderation is essential; a small amount is all you need to reap the rewards of this delightful treat!
