"We slowly peel away the layers of this old Hollywood veneer, going into a much darker world." - Jacob Rogers, Director.
Getaway is a black-and-white student short film, containing rich elements of Nior and Silence. Relying heavily on foley, grasping all of the little details, from clothes slightly moving, to the empty-like atmosphere within the void; signifying the importance of the id and superego (Freud's Structure of the Human Psyche).
During the beginning of this production, I was able to get a full and detailed induction for the Sound Theatre which is where most of the magic will happen and also my time.
Experimenting with different props I was able to find the best suiting sounds needed, for example, walking on different textures of the ground; the sound theater has a variety of different terrain which is extremely handy in correlating to where the location of the film is set. I had Bradley Jarman walking across vasts amount of these terrains at different walking speeds.
Adjusting the tempo and reverb really gave those footsteps a super realistic effect and increased the feeling of 'tension' as if you instinctively know something bad is going to happen any time soon.
Continuing my experiment with different sounds, I decided for the void effect to have Jacob Rogers make a low-pitch humming with his voice then reverbing, slowing, and looping, creating an 'empty' like atmosphere effect. I intend to work on this more as the sound has potential, perhaps manipulating the sound in becoming more eerie and desolate.

I believe having inspirations are important; a continuous strong motivational source. My two inspirations are; being heavily underwater and the video game "Phasmophobia".

Ideally, I'd like to create an ambient like this for the void; empty, desolate, and isolated.
Keep an eye out for these weekly updates and many more to come!
