Model-driven Systems Engineering Course

by Dr Laurent Balmelli, Ph.D.

2-4 September 2015 at EPFL, Vito room (BP1122), Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland

Objectives

In this course we explore the use of visual models to integrate systems engineering activities across the product development lifecycle. In this context models are used to represent graphically different facets of the product, its operational environment, stakeholders, etc. Models are also used to design and simulate functions, as well as assess performances. Because models are fulfilling multiple roles, modeltransformation and exchange are key operations for the integration of systems engineering tasks. Hence in this course we examine how models are created, transformed and leveraged across development stages, organizational units or in-between actors across the supply chain. We look at examples of systems as designed and manufactured in industries such as aerospace, auto, medical, etc. Such products typically implement complex functionalities through multi-disciplinary interactions of their sub-systems which in turns renders their realization very challenging. Participants to this class will gain practical knowledge in several key areas of model-driven systems engineering. In particular we illustrate this course with several demos of systems engineering activity integrations based on existing industry needs.

Too bad that I learn about this just now ... with the course coming up in a few days. Next time then.
