Saint Kitts & Nevis - Jan. 27/23 - Gov’t Considers a Private Investor Proposal for Vance W. Amory Int’l Airport

The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) is reportedly in negotiation with a private investor, telecom billionaire Patrick Drahi, to embark on an expansion project at the Vance W. Amory Int’l Airport (VAIA) to transform the airport into a first-class facility. The plans include extension and reinforcement of the runway, additional parking, a fixed based operator as well as a hangar, at an estimated cost of USD26m. Revenue derived from the new facilities are expected to repay the investment capital at a nominal interest rate of 2%. The NIA will offer a concession package to the investor for materials and equipment imported for use on the project.

Brazil - Jan. 25/23 - Natal Retendering Process Set in Motion with Upcoming “Roadshow” ?

Following a series of delays, the gov’t of Brazil announced that it expects the re-concession process for Natal - S?o Gon?alo do Amarante Airport (NAT) will commence in May 2023. A "roadshow" is planned in the coming weeks to inform potential investors of the proposed terms and conditions of the new concession and to received industry feedback. According to information published by the gov’t in Q2-2022, the planned investment in the new NAT concession is estimated at BRL308.9m, with BRL77.1m going into investments in infrastructure development, R$58.6m for pavement recovery and R$173.2m for reinvestment in built assets.

Angola - Jan. 19/23 - Majority Interest in State-owned Airport Operator Coming to Market by Year-end

The Institute for Asset Management and State Participation (IGAPE) announced that the privatization process for a 51% stake in the state-owned airport operating company Sociedade Gestora de Aeroportos (SGA) is scheduled to roll out in Q4-2023. IGAPE indicated actions relating to the accounts and the profitability strategy of each of the airports must be consolidated before the bid process begins. SGA is currently responsible for the management and development of roughly 50 airports across the country.

Indonesia - Jan. 11/23 - Indian & Saudi Players Jockey for Potential Stake in Kertajati Airport

In late 2022 it was reported that the Indonesian gov’t was considering a dilution of its ownership in Kertajati Int’l Airport, also known as West Java Int’l Airport (BIJB), through as share offering to Indian and Saudi Arabian interests, in a move to boost the under-utilized facility. In early January 2023, it was revealed that the Indian investors in question are Adani Group and GMR Group, however the identity of the potential Saudi suitor(s) has not yet been disclosed.

Burkina Faso - Jan. 04/23 - Second Military Coup in a Year Cast Cloud of Airport Deal with Meridiam

In late 2021, the Burkina Faso gov’t announced award of a 30-year concession for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the new international airport to Meridiam in partnership with Aéroport Marseille-Provence (AMP), as a minority equity partner in the project company. At the time, engineering and construction was estimated to last 30 months, start by the end of 2022, following financial close. In early January, following the second coup in a year, Burkina's Interim President Capt. Ibrahim Traoré declared suspension of the Merdiam agreement and ordered texts reviewed, thrusting the deal's fate into question.
