We've had a busy month, chock full of Mobycon Updates: first, we're excited to share that Mobycon won?the Minister's Design Innovation Award in Alberta, Canada, for the Railway Avenue Protected Intersection in Canmore!
We also welcomed two new colleagues, Dagmar K?hler and Narayan Donaldson, reflected on International Women's Day, and more.
On February 27th, 2023, our North American director?Elizbeth Allingham (second from the right) attended the 2023?Minister’s Awards for Transportation Innovation?in Alberta, Canada. These awards recognize individuals and organizations for their work in advancing transportation in Alberta.?Mobycon, together with the Town of Canmore and several consulting partners,?received a Design Innovation award for our work in the Town of Canmore for the Bow Valley Trail and?Railway Avenue Protected Intersection?with Near-side Signals. The concept design for the intersection was created by?Mobycon, and the engineer of record, McElhanney, did the detailed design.?Read the update here.

Last month, Mobycon’s international team welcomed Dagmar K?hler to our DACH team as a Strategic Advisor! She brings a wealth of experience working on transportation projects across Europe and a passion for cross-border cooperation.

Women’s Day 2023: Celebrating Remarkable Feminist Voices in Transport
On March 2nd, 2023, Women Mobilize Women (WMW), a project within the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) at GIZ, launched its annual Women in Transport publication titled Remarkable Feminist Voices in Transport. As a part of the launch event, Communications and Engagement Advisor and WMW Ambassador Melissa Bruntlett moderated an afternoon of inspiring speeches, panels, and of course, recognizing the remarkable women profiled in the publication with a copy of the printed book and a certificate of recognition. Taking Back Streets for The People, State Street, Santa Barbara: From Covid Measure to Permanent Fixture?
International Intern Michael Dyblie shares a bit about project that helped solidify his interest in urban planning and design: the State Street Promenade in Santa Barbara, California. What began as a temporary redesign that opened the street for pedestrians and cyclists during COVID now has the potential to inspire a lasting shift towards sustainable mobility in Santa Barbara and beyond. Sustainable Safety: The Dutch Approach To Safe Road Design
As a result of its Sustainable Safety?(Duurzaam veilig) approach, the Netherlands was able to reduce the country’s traffic fatalities by?80%, writes Sustainable Mobility Consultant Anna Wyner. She chronicles the history and development of Sustainable Safety over the past 30 years in her blog,?here.
