Mobility marketplace minute: Inclusive mobility

In the rapidly evolving landscape of urban mobility, there's an undeniable need to address challenges and progress toward creating an inclusive, accessible and enjoyable environment for all individuals. Transport, as studies have shown, is not gender-neutral, and this difference goes beyond the dichotomy of men and women. Urban planning must consider the needs of various groups facing accessibility or inclusivity challenges; including children, people with visual impairments, individuals with reduced mobility, the elderly, and more.?

Urban innovations addressing inclusivity??

Dreamwaves has introduced a groundbreaking platform, waveOut, which uses a non-intrusive audio layer with AR (audio augmented reality) sound to aid visually impaired individuals in navigation, reducing reliance solely on visual directions. A notable pilot project in the Vienna underground highlights the potential impact of this technology.?

Andyamo's innovative application programming interface (API) integrates with the current GPS system, offering people with reduced mobility secure commuting options with precise information about ramps, accessible sidewalks, crossings and more. This technology significantly enhances the experience for those with reduced mobility.?

Buddy Service offers a centralised platform providing various urban support services, making mobility more accessible for everyone. By facilitating information and booking for adapted transfers, accessible accommodation, assistance care, assistive technology rentals and accessible activities; this innovative concept simplifies the urban mobility experience, offering a wide range of support services at the fingertips of any user in need.??

In addressing inclusivity, it is also crucial to understand and facilitate the movement patterns of children within the city. In Helsingborg, concerns from parents about allowing their children to cycle to school prompted a closer look at incentives and deterrents for increased cycling.

To cultivate a cycling culture in Helsingborg, Nudgd, a Swedish-based company supported by EIT Urban Mobility's RAPTOR programme, embarked on a project involving 25 schools in the city. Using behavioural science, the platform encouraged parents, students, and school staff to shift towards more sustainable modes of transportation. The result was impressive, with 39% of users indicating a shift, or a plan to change, to more sustainable mobility behaviours for school commutes. It's noteworthy that Nudgd has just received the MOBILITYACTION Award 2023 for this project within the framework of European Mobility Week, recognising its commitment to promoting sustainable transportation initiatives.?
