In a recent interview with Prof Amnon Shashua, the CEO of Mobile Eye. he had some important points on the idea of technology innovation. I wanted to share a few really important insights with you mainly because it underscores my philosophy of innovation management that I've been evangelising for years, namely that businesses need to look ahead and not behind. This is premised on the fact that the future is not like the past and you fail too implement a technology scouting and innovation program in your industry vertical you're passing up on huge potential.
Here's a snippet: "Still, in order to develop software for cars, don't you have to understand auto production as well as Germany understands it, for example?
"Not necessarily, and Germany isn't a software powerhouse. When you look where software in in the corporate DNA, you find it in the US in Silicon Valley and New York and in Israel. That's it. India and China have a lot of programmers, but they aren't creating innovative software, meaning that they aren't driven by innovation. They're imitators. Europe has a traditional industry of production and engineering, but not software - look at Nokia's downfall. So it doesn't surprise me that the change in the auto industry, in which software is becoming the focus, is making it land in Israel."
Important to note that you need to be driven by innovation. Countries or companies that are not, no matter how big or industrialised just become imitators. The price you will pay for that is well documented by the Nokia case study. It's conclusion "downfall".
Setting up an innovation management strategy for your company doesn't have to be difficult. I've got answers for this pain...just ping me on LI for more info or if you'd like a full copy of the interview click HERE.
