Mobile & Wireless Roundup #44
Welcome to the 44th edition of this newsletter. Some of you may be aware that I am either the owner or manager of 10+ LinkedIn groups. As a result, I get to see some interesting things and analyse trends. One of these new trends I am seeing has baffled me.
I noticed that people are posting long articles or summaries of some or the other 5G features in the groups which are copied from other LinkedIn posts from months back. Some of these original posts have been changed over the months to be something completely different from the original post.
None of these posts have a source and I don’t believe any of these people are the original authors. In fact people are so lazy that they don’t even bother to change the formatting, the same mistakes are present in the copies as in the original posts.
Since LinkedIn doesn’t allow caching of the articles in Google search and LinkedIn’s own search is unbelievably bad, it is difficult to find out how big this network of people is. In fact, on LinkedIn you cannot even be sure if someone is who they say they are or work where they say they are. Some people are exploiting this to create companies like ‘Looking for Job’ that people innocently add to their profile. The company then uses this to market things to these people by notifying employees. It’s a strange business model but I guess any number of clicks is good for them ??.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a technologist with over 24 years’ experience in mobile wireless technology, currently working as an independent advisor, analyst, consultant and a trainer. This newsletter is a summary of my posts and others news that caught my attention since the last newsletter.

? Picture of the week: OneWeb has launched an advanced beam-hopping broadband satellite – nicknamed JoeySat after a baby kangaroo – that will demonstrate next-generation 5G connectivity by providing high-speed internet services to connect thousands of people travelling by air, sea or on land. The picture below was shared by OneWeb which shows the payload stack including Iridium’s satellites on top and OneWeb satellites below. JoeySat is at the top right of the OneWeb section of the stack! More about JoeySat at ESA .
