Mobile & Wireless Roundup No. 102

Welcome to the 102nd edition of this newsletter. Have you heard the discussion about, “If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it still make a sound?” The answer is yes, of course. I am bringing this up to talk about events and presentations.

Surely you agree that knowledge is power (but there is also luck, which is a completely separate discussion). Once upon a time it used to be tricky to find journal papers, event presentations, etc. Then the researchers as well as people in our industry realised that it makes more sense to publish your ideas, results and approach as it helps them in the long run.

Today we live in an age where we have many conferences, papers, presentations and a lot more information available immediately following the publication or an event. But there are still conferences that do not publish any videos, slides or summaries of what happened. So does this mean that it still happened? Or do they even matter?

On my 6G blog I share quite a few events/conferences whose videos and/or presentations are available. Just for reference, I have shared over 10 this year already. This is just one of my blogs. There are other ways I share even more. I believe it makes a lot more sense to share good practices, technological advancements, use cases and other information in general as it fosters collaboration.

I still struggle to find information about many other events, even those hosted by IEEE or one of the EU funded research organisations. It might be worth them reconsidering being more open and sharing what they are up to. It helps people in developing countries whose only source of information is the internet, generally on a limited bandwidth and speed.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a technologist with over 25 years’ experience in mobile wireless technology, currently working as an independent advisor, analyst, consultant and a trainer. This newsletter is a summary of my posts and other news that caught my attention since the last newsletter.
