Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps: What Should be a Startup’s Choice?

Even in 2019, there’s a question that brings cost-conscious startups on a stand-still. Should they invest in Mobile Apps or Mobile Website?

If you had asked this question in the 2015s or 2016s, the answer you must have got is Mobile Apps, after all, mobile websites were back then considered nothing but a responsive version of the desktop website.

However, the time has shifted now.

Mobile Websites have come really far to become at par and in some way even cross the attraction of Mobile Apps. With website design industry expanding their creativity levels and new technologies like AMP and PWA coming up to make the whole mobile website experience amazing for the millions of users around the globe, the time is here for the world to again ask the question: Mobile Website vs Mobile Apps: Which Should Startups Choose?

Now, the difference between a mobile website and mobile app has already been covered by us in an article - Mobile Web vs. Mobile App – From The Startup Perspective. So, here let us look at How Startups should make a choice between Mobile Apps and Websites.

These Questions will help you find answers to the choice you should make.

A. Is it High Reach You are After?

The reach of mobile websites is hands-down a lot more than the reach of mobile apps, while the latter gets concentrated to either Android or iOS, the former see visitors coming from not just these two platforms but from several others.

B. Do You Think People Will Visit You More than 5 Times a Day?

If you think people will visit you multiple times in a day, it is a better option to go with a Mobile App, after all, there is nothing worse than logging in the same set of details multiple times a day to gain access of some website.

C. Do you Want to Access a Lot of Phone Features?

While Mobile Websites have come far and they can gain access to some prime device features, if you wish to get complete access, you will have to invest in a mobile app instead as only a Native mobile app can get you linked with the complete device features.

D. Is your Budget Under $10k?

If the answer is yes, go with Mobile Website.

I won’t recommend going for a low cost and effort mobile app if you have such minimal budget to work around.

Once you find answers to these questions, hope it’ll help to clear things up.
