What is 5G transport??
5G transport is an integral part of a high performing 5G mobile network. It connects nodes in the radio access network (RAN) with the core by fiber or microwave connection. The transport network is often divided into fronthaul, which connects the radio unit to the baseband, and backhaul, which ties the basebands to the core.?
Why does 5G transport matter??
Transport networks must deliver in any deployment scenario – from dense urban centers to the most remote corners of the world. Transport needs to be capable of handling all the Gs – 2G, 3G, 4G, and especially 5G, with its advanced use cases and a whole new set of requirements for high reliability, security, high capacity, and low latency. Without 5G transport support, 5G RAN will not perform adequately. As our CTO, Erik Ekudden, says: “Superior RAN performance implies a superior transport network.”?
