The Mobile SEO Issue

The Mobile SEO Issue

A monthly newsletter delivered to your digital doorstep with actionable tips and strategies for your brand’s success.

Hey Marketers,

The Lead Magnate is back, and this month, we're focusing on Mobile SEO, i.e., optimizing your website and user experience with a mobile-first mindset.

Why does mobile-first indexing matter? Because it affects how Google crawls, indexes, and ranks your site. Barring a few exceptions, the mobile version of a website factors in greatly when it comes to SERP rankings.

In the last quarter of 2023, mobile devices (excluding tablets) alone generated 58.67 per cent of global website traffic.

Moreover, a global survey from Google found that 56% of in-store shoppers first searched for items on their mobiles first.

There's no surprise here - we know people are browsing and carrying out transactions on the go.

The moral of the story is: mobile optimization is crucial and affects how your brand is perceived and how people engage with it.

Here are some ways you can ensure you’re on the right track with Mobile SEO:

>>> Focus on Responsive Design: We shouldn't have to say this in 2024 but brands must implement responsive design for their websites. In layperson terms, you'll end up serving the same page to mobile and desktop users, both - just the design will vary depending on the screen size.

>>> Optimize Meta Descriptions and Titles for Mobile SERPs

We know that clear and optimized titles and meta descriptions can go a long way in increasing the CTR for your web page.

To create the perfect meta tags and titles, we recommend:

Less than 120 characters for meta descriptions

Less than 60 characters for meta tags

If they're any longer, Google will shorten them on its own.

Remember to bring in your primary keyword and keep your descriptions unique for each page.

>>> Optimize for Local Users

Target your local audience by optimizing content for local searches. Standardize your business name, address, and phone number (NAP), and include your city and state in your metadata.

These are just the basics, obviously. We've included a lot more tips and best practices on our blog post, which you can read below.

Once your mobile-first optimization strategies are in order, continue to analyze performance (you can use tools like PageSpeed Insights or LightHouse ) and make changes where required.

Remember, a happy mobile user is a more engaged user, and that's crucial for your brand’s rankings, performance and growth.

Is your website invisible to your target audience? Mastering on-page SEO can change that. Optimizing your website pages can lead to a significant improvement in:

- Search engine ranking

- User experience and

- Conversions

We Used Mobile SEO to Increase Traffic By 728% for A Leading Education Client

We delivered these results by implementing Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). Apart from ensuring the content was optimized for mobile users, we also made sure that the metadata was equivalent across all site versions.

We also ensured that we:

  • Improved internal linking to drive link juice to relevant landing pages and boost Page Authority.
  • Fixed a large number of dead URLs with 404 [not found] errors but were still linked to from the content.
  • Implemented canonicalization (AMP) recommendations for desktop to mobile site versions and vice versa.

Mobile-first optimization offers several benefits, including improved user experience, higher Google rankings, and increased accessibility for mobile users. By prioritizing mobile design, websites can cater to the majority of web traffic that now comes from mobile devices, ensuring content is easily navigable and engaging on smaller screens. For a digital marketing agency like Techmagnate, focusing on mobile SEO can significantly boost client satisfaction and traffic, as demonstrated in our company's case study of increasing traffic by 728% for an education industry client.
