Mobile Rapid Adoption Rate And Growth For Food And Retail Delivery

Circumstances Will Force Behaviors And Acceptance, Good or Bad

“Every dark cloud, has a silver lining.” That is an idiom that has been around since the 1600’s. In the modern parlance of society, it is used as a message of reassurance in troubled times. It helps to promote optimism and hope in bad situations. An “anonymous” reality show host turned president once said when asked about the tragedy of hurricane Katrina, that although it was a tragedy, it was also a gold mine for people like him.” They could swoop in and grab up parcels of land for penny’s on the dollar and turn a huge profit when the time was right.

Obviously, not all dire situations can be transformed into a windfall on purpose (nor should they), but there are times when circumstances reveal bounty from turmoil. The dark cloud of the pandemic was something that no-one could ignore or be affected by. And yet, a silver lining emerged for several industries, including the mobile delivery industry.

COVID-19 And A Shift In How We Perceive And Accept The New Norm

The pandemic?the country was shut down and business after business had to close their doors, some semblance of society had to rise and continue forward. People still needed food even though they were scared or weren’t allowed to go where food could be obtained. This forced millions of people who may not have thought about using mobile delivery services before to at least try it out of necessity.

Services like GrubHub and DoorDash reported profit increases from 41%-83% during the initial months of the shutdown. Fear and safety shifted the behavior of society to rely on mobile delivery for not only a lifeline to sustenance but to a semblance of a normal life. And while all medical professionals as well as emergency personal and law enforcement were rightfully acknowledged for their bravery in a foreign and dangerous situation, there were others putting their safety at risk as well.

Some of the unsung heroes of the pandemic were all the mobile delivery drivers delivering groceries, meals, snacks and even safety and medical supplies to Americans across the country.

There was as much as a three week gap between the beginning of the shutdown and when masks were mandatory in all public spaces. That means for three weeks mobile delivery drivers were coming in contact with hundreds of people per week, unprotected, uninformed, and without any type of coverage if they were unfortunate enough to get infected. In many of those cases, those drivers were propelled by necessity as much as bravery, to provide food for their own families.

Mobile Is Now The New Retail And Food Nucleus

And now even though Covid is still a real threat, the shutdown has been lifted and we are as close to “normal” as we’ve been in the past two plus years. Now, experts and economists, and of course the mobile delivery industry have been waiting to see how the country will react when??purchasing options resumed alongside mobile delivery services. To the elation of investors and hire-ups of the mobile delivery industry, recent numbers show that mobile delivery profits are higher than was expected. DoorDash expects its total gross order numbers to be around $1billion more than Wall Streets projected numbers.

So what this means, in this small sample size, is that society’s behavior has been altered due to an unforeseeable happening. Mobile delivery has become a “normal” part of how we live. It is seen less as an opulent splurge and more as a regular option of living. This will mean more opportunity for the industry to expand its reach, improve upon its service, and develop new innovations. Inevitably, there will be more challengers to the throne. And as history dictates, competition benefits the customers. More than likely, we are on the verge of a whole new gold standard in the world of mobile delivery. Not bad for a silver lining.?
