Mobile Photography and Sci-Fi Events

At a recent (not Steampunk) event, several photographers expressed their negative viewpoints to me, stating that cellphone pictures aren't real photography and never will be. No point in arguing with these people. It wasn't so long ago that film photographers forecasted a dubious future for digital imagining. RaVen's Photo rule #5: A gaggle of photographers "talking shop" at events are usually a source of "bad" misinformation.

Ok, I don't plan to replace my Canon DSLR cameras/ "L" lenses, but APPLE's current generation of iPhone is incredibly reliable in situations where a larger camera is too cumbersome. For example, inside Old Tucson's Court House where distance, lighting and crowd flow are challenging, the iPhone performed beyond expectations. This is true of most large inside events. I predict that APPLE's iPhone 7S, 8 and X will continue changing attitudes and set higher standards for professional mobile photography. The statement that "it's a phone camera" is obsolete. The camera is in your pocket, so use it.
