Mobile and Mighty: Transforming Frontline Training for the Better
No one enjoys sitting through long, boring corporate training sessions. Especially for frontline employees who are always running around, juggling tasks that can’t wait. Toss in some outdated training methods, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for wasted time, confusion, and maybe a side of frustration.
But don’t worry.?
We’ve got the fix.
In this edition, we’re sharing how you can stop torturing your employees (training-wise) and start integrating learning into their everyday workflow. Daren Jennings (Speakap, CCO) and Bradley H. (Enterprise Success Lead at eduMe ) dropped some wisdom, and here’s what they had to say.
1. Mobile accessibility is non-negotiable
We live in an age where people are more likely to leave home without their keys than without their phones. Yet, when it comes to training, many companies are stuck offering outdated methods that require employees to be glued to a desktop or locked in a classroom. Not exactly practical for your frontline team, who’s always on the move.
Research shows that 58% of employees prefer training at their own pace, on their own time, yet only 5% of companies have adapted by offering mobile-friendly training.?
Five percent!?
That’s practically nothing.
Think about that. It’s no wonder traditional training methods are being ignored. Employees want flexibility. They want training they can fit into their own schedules, not the other way around.
Daren puts it best:?
“Modern employees need training that meets them where they are—on their mobile devices, accessible 24/7.”
Bingo. Give the people what they want.?
2. Seamless integration = no more app juggling
How many apps are too many? Trick question - there’s no such thing as too many...unless you’re a frontline employee trying to complete training on five different platforms. Then yeah, it’s too much. When you embed training right into the apps your employees already use (you know, the ones they actually open), you reduce the headache and make life easier for everyone.
Bradley Hunt nails it:
?“The goal is to embed training within their daily workflow, reducing disruptions and improving completion rates.”?
In other words, make it part of their routine, not an extra chore. The result? Happier employees who are more likely to complete training without feeling overwhelmed.
Less fuss, more focus.?
Everyone wins.
3. Keep it bite-sized, like your favorite snack
no one has the time (or the patience) to sit through hours of back-to-back training. Your frontline employees especially don’t have that luxury. They’ve got customers to help, tasks to manage, and schedules to keep. That’s why microlearning—quick, digestible chunks of training—is a no-brainer.
Instead of dumping all the information on them at once, break it up into bite-sized lessons they can complete during breaks or slower moments.
Plus, 39% of leaders say their training lasts more than a day.
That’s a day of productivity lost for training that could’ve been broken into shorter, more manageable pieces.? A day.?
Imagine sitting in a training session longer than your Netflix binge. Hard pass.
Plus, employees are more likely to retain information from a quick 10-minute lesson than from an 8-hour training marathon.
4. Make it relatable, or it's just noise
If your training content doesn’t make sense to your employees, they’ll zone out faster than a toddler at naptime. It’s gotta hit home. Make it relevant, practical, and maybe even a little fun. Trust us, it works.
Training that addresses real challenges and offers practical solutions is far more likely to engage employees and stick with them. Bradley Hunt hit the nail on the head:?
“By creating content that directly addresses their daily challenges, you increase its impact exponentially.”
In short, if it matters to them, they’ll care. If it doesn’t, they won’t.
Why should you care?
Good question! Here’s why:
