ROTON's EXPERIMENTS

As people spend more and more time on mobile, it’s important for makers to understand how viewing habits are changing. With the adaptation of bigger and bigger screens, the screen view dimensions of mobile have changed a lot. To learn more about what works well for mobile, Roton and Akcent's team tried different dimensions and frames. They got their stats, they might fail or success, but they are the ones who experimented it first and knows the in & out's.

Going back to 80's or 90's, the screen dimension was square with the more of vertical height. Many things were involved or were dependent to keep the square visuals.

Such as:

  • Shooting Angle
  • Camera distance
  • Character in frame
  • Wired live Sound Record
  • Manual Focus & Zoom Capability
  • Editing Tools
  • Everything Wired Tools & Equipment
  • Single Cut Shots to save physical film cans (Non-Digital Memory)
  • Recording Backups & Long Process

Due to rapidly evolving technology, dimensions have changed for mobile, televisions and related digital devices were multimedia is been viewed. Television from square shaped to wide angle/landscape view, also taking less of the space or no space, like mounting it on walls like a photo frame. Video has become one of the most effective ways to connect with customers on mobile, but in order to better user experience, it’s critical to adopt a mobile-first strategy to create video.

Bravo Roton MusicTv and Akcent team for this experiment! focusing on mobile first. As the stats might speak of maximum mobile traffic as compare to web & other devices. Roton's team did excellent work testing new things for better user experience. Looking ahead to know more about their experience and challenges with the same.

What i have experienced is that, instead of making this dimension a full screen, where there are black patches on top and bottom. I don't know but it looks better than whole display video, giving it a theater mode experience.

Some point came into my mind what might made them do this

  1. Using user device as a frame
  2. Cropping dimensions saves file size
  3. Youtube experience also looks good with that frame (No Black Patches on web)

Have you watched these type of videos on different platforms?

Any thoughts came in your mind?

Do try it and share your experience!

I am not a videographer / video content maker, but a user / viewer and explorer. Looking ahead to learn new things and spread to others who mighty get some help out it, to make better for user at the end.

Also people who have tried or involved please share your experience, what challenges you've faced while filming, editing. So as i can list it here!
