Are mobile apps good or bad? | Impact on Society |Part 02
Welcome to the second part of our two part article on understanding the impact mobile apps have on society. This section will talk about the positive impacts in society, hence if you missed out on the negative impacts, you can head on over to our main blog page www.earltech.biz or our LinkedIn article page and read part 01. For those of you who came to read the positives let’s get rolling.
Positive effects of mobile phones in our life
1. Communication?
Communication is the hub of human interaction and some say that technology has brought people closer to each other and is making our lives better than ever before. Well this is true in the case of mobile apps as well. Mobile applications have changed the way people communicate. Now anyone is able to reach anyone as long as they have a mobile phone and an internet or cellular connection. This has widened human reach and interactions beyond borders and in the long run has also helped countries and economies flourish.?
Never have humans been able to share so much with friends and family as they can today, and that is in great part due to mobile technology and the help of mobile apps. Without mobile devices, the technology and the relevant mobile applications behind them, participation in social networking, online interactions and online transactions would never have grown as much as it has. Today, even sharing little and trivial information like what people eat, where people are currently, how people feel, what people are currently doing at the moment and many more such things significantly impacts our relationships with friends and loved ones.
Moreover, it is good to recognize that technology, smart gadgets, mobile phones and mobile applications have given a much needed voice to those otherwise cut off from the world. Especially to people who do not like social interaction, introverts as such have better modes to communicate on and be a part of the community. Moreover, not forgetting that this concept of quick communication through mobile technology has also avoided so many tragic incidents and saved people's lives during cataclysmic events. In 2021 people can reach out for help when local tragedy strikes, and for the first time, these people are not alone. They can share their plight using mobile communication through text, voice, and, most importantly, images, and bring about real change. This is a huge power given to the people, and through mobile apps that come in the form of social media etc. The voice of every human can be heard equally, at least they all have the equal opportunity to be a part of it.?
2. Daily utilities?
Moving on, as mentioned above mobile applications have made our work more productive. Not only does mobile apps allow people to stay connected with each other, they also allow everything from paying your bills to booking a hotel for your summer vacation or even hailing a cab or ordering your groceries and food much easier than it has to be. Moreover, taking pictures and making memories is much easier now with the various camera and video applications. As such, people have more information in their own hands than at any time in history. It has become second nature to quickly look up helpful resources for whatever activity people need to or must do. Hence, these gadgets and mobile applications can even anticipate what information we need and present it to us when it is most useful. Such is the power of mobile applications and the technology behind it.
3. Healthcare services
This is another area that we need to focus on, which is the fact that mobile applications have profoundly raised the quality of life for many. Healthcare is an area that has embraced mobile technology, and while it’s still in the infancy of adoption of this technology, it is already making profound improvements for many.?
Healthcare providers get a quick medical opinion, through medical apps, or they can review home medical tests from anywhere and make crucial changes to the patient’s care. Medical staff members can receive pacemaker tests remotely using a phone and change the programming of the device to address changes in the patient’s condition. Doctors can see intricate diagnostic images on phones and find conditions that need immediate treatment, all while the patient is comfortable at home. Moreover, in the current imes of the Covid-19 pandemic, mobile apps have really come in handy in making sure people are safe and have good communication with doctors for treatment. Most governments have released their own apps that track the amounts and daily numbers of Covid-19 cases which keeps the public informed of any new rises in the cases and threats. Moreover, the healthcare system has also been more vigilant through mobile apps allowing patient and treatment through mobile apps etc. Finally not forgetting that there are many mobile applications that also encourage healthy patterns like various fitness routines and regimes and even dieting apps etc. This can be viewed as a benefit to society because it not only keeps people safe in excruciating circumstances but also keeps the public healthy.
Education and academics
Another reason or benefit of mobile apps is the fact that mobile apps encourage academics. As mentioned above mobile apps can also induce productivity and effective use of time and also today mobile applications induce learning as well. There are a lot of people in the world who use mobile apps to learn languages, keep their mind sharp and even educate themselves in certain areas and fields of study. Most universities especially in the USA have learning management systems for university grad students that function as mobile apps and in the near future every country will be able to see this trend. Moreover, not forgetting that video platforms like YouTube that are available as apps also encourage learning and skill development. For example, most musicians in the 21st century learn their craft through YouTube videos etc. and this is a trend that will exist for the longest time because it is much easier and simple to learn something today. The overall impact of this society is that, in the long run, society becomes more skilled which inevitably increases the knowledge base in the society. Moreover, today little children have more access to technology based learning and they are much more forward thinking and ahead than the generations before them.
Conclusion
Thus, looking at all the points in terms of cons and pros given in part 01 and part 02 of this two part article, from a neutral standpoint it is hard to lift a finger to either side. In all honesty we are in an incredible era today full of wonders in terms of technology and mobile apps and as much as it has its negatives, it is important to understand that these technologies will not go away like a bad cold and are bound to keep improving in the future. Hence, we may not be able to live without our phones but we can take steps now to reduce the negative effects of this addiction. One way is by reducing the time spent on your phone and trying to communicate directly to people's faces instead of relying on your phone for every small task, so you can focus on what really matters in life. Regardless of anything as human beings we must understand that we have the control of everything, hence a little bit of control over your urge to use your smartphone mobile apps when you don't really have to will go a long way. And this sense of control is able to negate so many cons that we discussed in this article. We at Earltech believe that technology is simply there to assist us in our day to day lives. As such we build mobile apps and as mobile app builders it is sufficient to say that we can control our mobile applications and technology rather than allowing them to control us. However in any case if you're interested in getting a mobile app for your product, business or for your personal use, you can reach out to us through our website www.earltech.biz or just send us an email or DM us on social media.
