Mobile Apps for Charities

Mobile Apps for Charities

How a mobile app can help charities engage better with their audience

We now spend significantly more time getting online using our phone and tablets than we do on a traditional desktop or laptop computer. What many people don’t realise is that 90% of the time we spend on our mobile phone is spent using apps.

This rise in mobile-phone usage means that smartphone apps have become a key marketing tool for all types of companies and more and more charities are using apps as a key focus to boost engagement with their supporters.

One local charity the Deafness Support Network launched their mobile app with the help of Martin Haley at Eazi Apps. Gill Reeder, Executive Director had this to say:

“DSN had always wanted to have an app but until now the price had always been prohibitive to us. Martin worked tirelessly and created an app that is easy to use, navigate around but most importantly is a very useful information tool for our service users, family members and friends of DSN. The App also helps promote DSN as a Charity.”

The key reason for the mobile app was to engage with their audience. They can now send Push notifications to all their users that pop up on their phones making them more highly read than an email or a social media post. They can inform of special events, encourage usage in the app or just report news stories which users can read from the palm of their hand.

The app really builds the brand for the charity because phones are so personal, and we carry them around in our pockets. The DSN app is always accessible which means users don’t have to find information through a website making it very easy to contact the charity with a few taps and swipes on the app.

Our latest charity mobile app is for the Hope Revolution, a homeless charity based in Manchester with the aim of getting the items homeless people need buy allowing users to purchase with the app, which are then distributed to local shelters for the homeless.

Hope Revolution think donating to your local charities should be as easy as 1... 2... 3...

In just a few taps, your chosen items can be on their way to those who need them most.

The Hope Revolution work with charities and organisations who look out for people who are homeless, or at risk. By listing the physical items they need the most, and connecting them with you through their app, they hope to make the lives of both the supported and the volunteers just that bit better.
