Mobile App Success Starts with 3 Simple Steps

Mobile App Success Starts with 3 Simple Steps

You’ve invested time and resources into creating an app for your business -- and people aren’t using it.

What’s the problem?

Why are they downloading the app and then never opening it again?

In my experience, one of the most common causes of this scenario is poor mobile app user experience (UX) design.

And good news for you!

I'm going to break down three mobile app UX design tips that can help you attract and retain users.

Mobile UX Design Tip #1: Connection

Good user experience design is all about making mobile apps accessible and convenient to use, and internet speed significantly impacts mobile app design and accessibility.

A user from one part of the world might have a different connection speed compared to another.

However, if your app has a good UX design, it will cater to the needs of both end users (and everyone in between), irrespective of their circumstances.

One way we recommend doing this is to design your app with slow networks in mind and to offer an offline option.

Mobile UX Design Tip #2: Clarity

Being creative is great, but it shouldn’t interfere with the user interface.

I’ve learned from personal experience that the end user shouldn’t have to deal with a cluttered screen when they’re trying to interact with your app.

Maintaining clarity in UX design ensures the critical details are highlighted as necessary -- which means people are more likely to engage with them.

On the other hand, having too many features or icons makes it confusing for the end user to complete a task.

This results in information overload, which might discourage the user from using the app and cause them to look for an alternative instead.

During the design process, pause and ask yourself: What’s absolutely essential, and what’s just clutter in disguise?

Another way to think of this is to remember that with each extra item you add, you are decreasing the screen’s clarity and turning navigation into a needless maze.

Mobile UX Design Tip #3: Navigability

Speaking of navigation, navigability is our third most important factor to consider when designing a mobile app.

No matter what kind of app you’re developing, this rule of thumb is simple: Users should be able to navigate their way around your app effortlessly.

Good UX design ensures that users can move around without having to retrace their steps again and again.

It should feel like there is an invisible map guiding the users along.

To recap, some key features that make mobile app navigation easy, which good UX design includes, are:

  • Connection
  • Clarity
  • Navigability

Keep these in mind throughout the design process.

Good UX design will help you retain users and gain an advantage over your competitors -- and who doesn’t want that?
