MOBA leveling, compaction and temperature profile used for LUSAIL int. Circuit in Qatar

Qatar is making global headlines ever since they were successful in organizing the FIFA world cup in 2022. With eyes of the world eager to witness the next major project to come out of this country of 3 million people, Qatar is building a F1 race track in their capital city of Doha. This is quite significant as never before a venue still under construction has been made part of the racing calendar. Hence, for the contractor, time was always going to be a commodity in short supply. Ambition and determination on the other hand are in abundance among the teams involved in this prestigious project. MIDMAC [part of COLAS M.E], contractor to GET and ASHGHAL is laying asphalt for the track. In a long list of technologies, machines, and best practices; the MOBA Pave IR scanner, MCA 3000 and Big Sonic Ski are a prominently visible setup on machines.

The MOBA MCA 3000 is an advanced compaction assistance system that guides the roller operator graphically and numerically with information about the stiffness of asphalt surface. Backed by a positioning antenna, the system can both capture the location of the roller and map the compaction process on a map. In ‘FLEET’ mode, the system can combine data from multiple rollers so that overall compaction process is visualized and monitored in a transparent and effective manner. The paving of the race track is nearing completion under the able stewardship of COLAS M.E, a team successful in the known race track project of Yas Marina, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Paving 5.4kms of F1 quality asphalt under the scorching summer sun is a challenge compounded manyfold by tight timelines. Both to keep a tab on the quality of paving and to comply with quality standards of the consultant COLAS chose MOBA Mobile Automation’s range of paving technologies. For instance, the MOBA Pave IR and MCA 3000 fit the bill of fare perfectly.

The picture below shows the summary of various data streams recorded by multiple roller that were working together on one project. The information show that compaction has been performed most efficient towards the desired stiffness of the material.

We thank "Colas" for their trust in our Quality systems and look forward to make roads better in the middle east and anywhere else in the world.
