MLK - Inauguration Day

MLK - Inauguration Day

I've written about MLK and his "I have a dream speech before." Short. Concise. Powerful. I never really thought about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and I'd rather not say why, but let's say that my family prejudices took a while to overcome.

I've written about him before because if salespeople would listen closely to his speech, they would understand why I've done what I've done with so many salespeople. Salespeople are being stripped of their individualism by technology, big money investors and weak sales managers with mechanical sales processes. My dream is that anybody who calls themself a salesperson or who knows that they need to sell to have something to do should have a dream and be working toward it rather than doing what AI suggests, working toward a quota or punching in and punching out.

But that is not what seeded this article.

I'm a curious guy. I asked Google, "How many people were involved in the attack on the Capitol on January 6th?" "Several thousand."

I asked, "How many people marched on Washington in 1963 with MLK? "260,000"

Then I asked how many were arrested on January 6th? "1,500" (over 1,000 pled guilty and were sentenced.)

Then I asked how many were arrested in 1963? "3" (but none were marchers)

People died on January 6th. Nobody died in 1963.

Hhmmm.

I've worked with hundreds of 25-35 year old sellers. My dream for the 25-35 year olds of the next decade is that they'll learn how to use technology rather than being used by it, learn how to develop happy customers into evangelists rather than constantly making more noise and spam and realize that if they focus on helping people that they can help and that want help, they'll reach every dream they can imagine and never miss their quota.

This is not a political statement, more of a "Huh?"

Happy Birthday, Dr. King. Welcome aboard President Trump.
