Martin Luther King Day February 18th - A Time of Reflection - Let Peace and Freedom Ring
My vision of Peace starts with understanding what it is truly made of. Sure, all people should treat others with kindness, regardless of their differences. They should try to discover various things they have in common and then go on to build positive relationships. I see peace as being much like a recipe. The ingredients should start with Kindness and include: Respect, Compassion, Friendship, Forgiveness, Justice, Beauty and Love. People should not judge others unfairly. It is better to build bridges of friendship toward them. Being welcoming is very important for peace to exist. In fact a key to peacebuilding is better understanding those who do not understand you.
I share a dream with Doctor King. This dream, is to live in a nonviolent world where people Love instead of hate. Doctor King famously stated, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that” - MLK. We can build a better future if we remember to treat others fairly. We should try to accept others in the same amazing way that we accept ourselves. It's a little bit like a hug; it's an inclusive embrace.
Finally, we should always strive to promote Peace and work together to allow this wonderful dream to come true.
