MLIT to Look for Unexploded Ordnance, Cebu Pacific to Launch Manila - Sapporo & More

Over the last week, among other things, Japan’s transport ministry announced it will conduct magnetic surveys at four government-operated airports where unexploded ordnance was previously found. The decision comes after an unexploded bomb exploded under Miyazaki Airport’s taxiway last month.

Routes
China Eastern Airlines will launch Yantai - Fukuoka on Dec 7, 2024. The flights will operate three times a week.
Greater Bay Airlines will operate daily Hong Kong - Sapporo New Chitose flights between Dec. 20, 2024, and Jan. 1, 2025.
Cebu Pacific will launch Manila - Sapporo New Chitose on Jan. 16, 2025. The flights will operate three times a week.
Hong Kong Airlines will increase Hong Kong - Kagoshima from the current three weekly flights to four from Dec. 23, 2024.
Tigerair Taiwan further postponed the launch of Taipei Taoyuan - Yonago; it now plans to start flights between the two cities in April 2025.
Lufthansa will temporarily suspend Munich – Osaka Kansai between Jan. 5 and Feb. 21, 2025, in the direction from Germany and a day later in the other direction.
Operations

Airports
Fukuoka Airport’s expanded international terminal will fully open on March 28, 2025. It will include additional boarding bridges and a security check area with smart lanes among other things.
Did You Know That…
There was an A300-600 freighter operator, Galaxy Airlines, in Japan between 2005 and 2008. The domestic cargo airline was a joint venture between the logistics company Sagawa Express and JAL.
