MKUBA FUND DISBURSEMENT GANDO-PEMBA

Gando in Pemba Island is the 7th village to benefit from our MKUBA Ecocredit program! In December 2023 Mwambao Coastal Community Network Tanzania established five Gando MKUBA groups, each with 30 members.

After 3 weeks of intensive training on the selection, planning, and management of small businesses (SPM) and the selection of appropriate eco-compliance activities, the groups received a fund disbursement of 10.5 million Tanzanian Shillings, through a grant as part of our ECOFISH programme .

Mkuba program. It's not just about co-management initiatives and following agreed by-laws; it's a game-changer for the livelihoods of coastal residents who have limited access to credit facilities. We hope to incentivize them to become guardians of the sea, turning the fight against illegal fishing into a story of the past, and for income-generating activities to grow into thriving enterprises, all fueled by the growth of the Mkuba revolving loan fund.
