MIZZOU Magazine wins big
The Society of Publication Designers recently announced their merit winners, and MIZZOU magazine is proud to be featured among them.
SPD's annual competition is considered the world's premier editorial design contest, with fellow winners including The Atlantic, National Geographic, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Smithsonian, and Vanity Fair. MIZZOU magazine captured an impressive?three?wins this year; the most it has won in a single SPD competition.
While the cover of the Spring 2021 issue received a merit for photography, every photo featured in the associated article — winners of Mizzou's Pictures of the Year International competition — was worthy of a cover page. Considered one of the most important and celebrated photojournalism competitions in the world, this contest is hosted each year by the School of Journalism and Reynolds Journalism Institute.?
"I was a little obsessive in going through every option for the cover," says Blake Dinsdale, Art Director. "But I'm glad I went through all twenty years' worth of winners; it obviously paid off."
In addition to the cover, the associated story ("International Reach," pg. 14), also received an award, as did the cover story of the Winter 2021 issue ("The Long Quiet," pg. 16).
