This original documentary takes the audience for an inside, behind the scenes look at world-renowned acting coach Larry Moss, working with a young director and his actors, through a rehearsal process that will elicit a richer comedic performance by exploring the subtext of gifted writers. Subtext is considered the supreme form of dialogue, where the character's deeper emotions and reasons for action, hide beneath the surface.
The film also features appearances by writer, producer, director James L. Brooks, moderated by USC Cinematic Arts Professor, producer, and director, Barnet Kellman, with a special clip of Tracey Ullman and Mel Brooks from The Tracey Ullman Show, with bonus materials included.
On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, The Process, an original documentary that pulls back the curtain of one of the most universally acclaimed acting coaches of all time Larry Moss, will be distributed on DVD and Blu-Ray, along with direct digital download at www.theprocessstudios.com, and select stores including Samuel French Bookstores and New York Drama Bookshop. What was the catalyst for The Process documentary?
Mitzi Kapture: It started all the way back to my Silk Stalkings days. I was having lunch with Stephen J. Cannell, a great man who was very much ahead of his time. He made every effort to treat me as an equal and to champion my work. I brought up the concept idea of a documentary on the directing and acting process. It wasn't a 'pitch', but he was encouraging and positive about the valuable contributions it could offer. It was simmering in my mind since that time.
What was it like working with Stephen J. Cannell?
Mitzi Kapture: As an actor, I was fascinated by those magical moments that makes the story puzzle come together. I watched the dailies every day. David Peckinpah, who wrote several episodes, was always open to my voice and story arc ideas. I began to develop an emotional point of view to storytelling, as well as a directorial eye.
