Welcome to the second edition of our Sustainability and Construction newsletter.?
With COP27 kicking off yesterday in Egypt, we'll be looking at what we can expect from this year's conference. Whilst COP26 saw many pledges made regarding Net Zero commitments, COP27 promises to see a shift from negotiations to "planning for implementation" for the pledges and promises made.?

The latest report in PlanRadar’s ‘Architecture of the Future’ series: ‘The Offices of the Future’, provides a snapshot of the global office specification and commercial fit-out sector, shows a paradigm shift in workplace perceptions since the pandemic, which have ushered in a sea change in approaches to office layout and design.
Less than 1% of existing buildings in major economies are being given the necessary retrofitting upgrade — through energy efficiency renovations and refurbishments — each year. This is well below the International Energy Agency (IEA) target of 2.5% rate by 2030.
As growing climate change impacts are experienced across the globe, the message that greenhouse gas emissions must fall is unambiguous. Yet the Emissions Gap Report 2022: The Closing Window – Climate crisis calls for rapid transformation of societies finds that the international community is falling far short of the Paris goals, with no credible pathway to 1.5°C in place. Only an urgent system-wide transformation can avoid climate disaster.?
COP27:
This year’s UN Climate Conference takes place in Sharm el-Sheikh, against a backdrop of extreme weather events worldwide, an energy crisis propelled by the war in Ukraine, and scientific data reiterating that the world is not doing enough to tackle carbon emissions and protect the future of our planet.
