SCRATCH (https://scratch.mit.edu/) is an introductory computer program for children and beginners to learn computer programming. With Scratch, you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations — and share your creations with others in the online community. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century. Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. It is provided free of charge. It is available in different languages.
Recently with the effort of the leading national level NGO working in education - Pratham, SCRATCH has been translated into several Indian languages. This makes it possible for young children even in primary schoo with know English language knowledge to be able to use the portal and learn computer programming. This work was done voluntarily by Prof (Dr) Priyadarshan Patra who was dean of computer science and research at Xavier University, Bhubaneswar and Prof (Dr) Dhanada Kanta Mishra, principla of KMBB College of Engineering who is currently visiting as a research scholar at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Besides volunteering for Pratham, both Dr Patra and Mishra have been founding members of SEEDS (Sustainable Economic and Educational Development Society) formed 25 years ago by NROs in USA to support development work in primarily Odisha.
Odiya SCRATCH should be widely promoted and used for the benefit of Odisha's young children and learners.
