MITHUN CHAKRABORTY SET TO RECEIVE THE PRESTIGIOUS DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD 2024 : RECOGNITION ACKNOWLEDGES HIS IMMENSE CONTRIBUTION TO FILM INDUSTRY

After four decades of acting career, Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty wins the Dadasaheb Phalke award. As a three-time National Award winner, Mithun's achievements in cinema have left a lasting impression, and this recognition further acknowledges his remarkable contributions to the industry.

"From the streets of Kolkata to Cinematic Heights, Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations. Honored to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. The award will be presented to the veteran actor at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8th, 2024," Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics, and IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw announced. .

Mithun made his acting debut in the year 1977 with the film Mrigayaa(by Mrinal Sen). He received the National Award for Best Actor for his very first film. Mithun’s journey in the filmdom has been inspirational. His hit films include Disco Dancer, Agneepath. Born in Kolkata. He has appeared in more than 350 films. These include Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi movies. He is not only an actor, but also a producer and a politician by profession.

 Mithun Chakraborty born Gouranga Chakraborty was born on June 16, 1950. At the beginning of his career, he appeared in small roles. The film Suraksha (1979) and Prem Vivah helped him to  gain gradual fame.  Mithun worked in hit movies like Humse Badkar Kaun, The Entertainer, Shandaars, Trinetra, Agneepath, Hum Se Hai Zamana, Woh Jo Haseena, Disco Dancer, Taxi Chor. He  debuted in Bengali cinema in 1978 with the movie Nadi Theke Sagare.        

Mithun Chakraborty was considered a bonafide star during the 1980s. Albeit the 80s weren’t the best of times for Indian cinema, they certainly gave Mithun a great platform to shine. With several critically applauded performances perfectly balanced with crowd pleasers to his credit, Mithun was winning it all - be it with his style, way of dressing, extreme commitment in fight scenes, comedy or presentable look.

The news of Mithun Chakraborty winning the prestigeous Dadasaheb Phalke Award comes just months after he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in the field of cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The recipient is honoured for their outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The award was first presented in 1969 to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke's contribution to Indian cinema.
