Mistakes!

Yesterday I made an error when posting my most recent thought of the day. I then had someone bring it to my attention and I made the correction as soon as it was pointed out. I can literally hear you say right now big deal why is he talking about this.
Well, with every one of us being human we each will at times make a mistake. The one thing that I have always prided myself on in my career is that when, not if that happens, I can only react in a predetermined way. I take ownership of the mistake and immediately correct the problem. Everyone will miss the mark every now and then, so what. However not everyone is willing to admit that they missed the mark. That is the sign of weakness and a lack of confidence in your own abilities. Yes, mistakes make you look human, but no mistakes do not make you look foolish or weak. You know what does that? It is when you decide to ignore the mistake or worst yet blame someone else for that error.
I remember a time where a mistake was made with one of my clients and this mistake had some financial implications for my client. As I am sure you understand this was not a simple mistake from their perspective. So, I took immediate action getting to the bottom of the issue and worked on resolving it. Not wanting to bore you with the details let's just say that it was resolved, and they continued being a very loyal client of mine till I retired from that company. The important lesson to learn however, that I want to share came after the problem was resolved. In concluding the process, I was asked a question. I was asked to guarantee that we would never have a mistake like this again. I assured my client that steps had been taken to prevent it from occurring again. However, I could not promise him that it would never happen again. I pointed out that I work with human beings and that sometimes mistakes occur. But what I could promise him is that next time a mistake occurred that we would be just as quick and diligent to resolve it as we had just done.
Thats the point you can never promise perfection but what you can promise is a 100% effort to make everything perfect in the end.

5 个月I love this article. We forget that results take work and that’s the part that no one wants to do they want to see the result. But with the effort and the ongoing effort, consistency is really the gold mine.
